The quote "I have no respect for a man who can spell a word only one way." is attributed to Mark Twain. The idea however can be found in Marshal Brown Wit and Humor (1880) as “A man must be a great fool who can’t spell a word more than one way.”

Aye khant cea thuh wizdum beahynd theat lawgyk

Sounds more like the writings of Lewis & Clark...

I need my hog washed!

[4] I need your hog butchered. MMMM Bacon.

[3] Or Will Rogers.

Sounds more like Twain. Lincoln was a self educated lawyer, and wanted to be correct.

Since Google automatically spellchecks for you, there's little reason people can't use the "correct" spelling except laziness and trying to sound colloquial...

back in the day there was no spelling.

I never heard about that quote from him, and I have read alot about Lincoln.
